Elks appreciate veterans

Staff Reports

On Friday, Tahoe-Douglas Elks Lodge 2670 visited the Veterans Hospital in Reno.

Eight members spent time talking with vets and distributing thank you cards made by students from Meneley Elementary School and toiletry items donated by lodge members.

Also on Friday, members placed flags on the graves of veterans at Eastside Memorial Cemetery in Minden. The flags will be removed on Tuesday.

A veterans appreciation steak dinner was held at the Lodge on Saturday. There were 124 in attendance, of which 61 were veterans. Commissioner Barry Penzel was the guest speaker.

Veterans from Carson Valley Senior Living were guests of the lodge.

The Elks National Veterans Service Commission Freedom Grant helped to fund this event.
