East Fork responds to Cold Springs fire
An East Fork Fire District fire engine is fighting a 1,523-acre fire in Cold Springs in Reno after receiving a request for help with structure protection.
“East Fork Engine 12 is responding to Cold Springs in Reno under an immediate need request for structure protection,” East Fork Fire District Chief Tod Carlini said.
Firefighters have a line a fifth around the blaze, which is threatening 100 homes. More than 200 firefighters are working to battle the blaze.
“Extreme fire behavior observed throughout the afternoon with wind-driven runs,” according to the Sierra Front Interagency District. “Heavy and continuous fuels causing greater spread than would normally be expected.”
Firefigters report power lines damaged or destroyed in multiple locations, including those feeding Stead Tanker Base has lost electrical power.
The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District reports evacuations have been lifted.
Meanwhile, forward progress of a 632-acre wildfire has been stopped north of Washoe Lake on Brenda Way, firefighters said.
“Crews are strengthening lines on the flanks,” according to the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center. “All aviation resources have been released. All evacuations and closures in the vicinity have been lifted.”
