Driver dies after Spooner wreck
A Sacramento man died Monday night after striking the concrete median on Spooner Summit.
The man, whose name was not revealed pending notification of next of kin, was driving a Toyota pickup west when he hit the median at about 6 p.m., according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
According to initial reports, the man seemed uninjured following the single-vehicle crash, NHP Trooper Todd Hartline said.
But after the driver declined treatment from an ambulance and was about to get a ride with a tow truck, he lost consciousness, Hartline said. Medical personnel responded to treat him.
The man died at the scene. An investigation into the exact cause of death is ongoing. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
Both lanes of westbound 50 were temporarily closed following the accident, Hartline said.
In unrelated incidents, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reported at least two spin-outs near Spooner Summit as snow moved into the area Monday evening. Another spin-out occurred on Kingsbury Grade about 7:30 p.m., deputies said. No injuries were reported.
