Driver arrested in I-80 DUI crash
A 21-year-old Reno man is in custody and a 22-year-old man is in serious conditions after an alcohol-related crash on Interstate 80 near Wadsworth on Sunday evening.
Ian D. Hain was arrested after he allowed his vehicle to drift out of the left travel lane and onto the shoulder, where it careened off a guardrail, crossed both westbound lanes, rolled over at least once and came to rest on its wheels straddling the concrete road barrier at the Painted Rock onramp, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred around 6 p.m. after emergency operators received at least one call reporting a reckless motorist driving a 2013 Hyundai.
Hain and his passenger, 22-year-old Shane R. Fish of Reno, were extricated from the vehicle and transported to Renown Regional Medical Center by ground ambulance. Both men displayed signs of gross intoxication at the scene, according to NHP spokesman Trooper Chuck Allen. Hain was treated and medically released from the hospital and transported directly to the Washoe County Detention Facility where he was booked for felony DUI causing substantial bodily harm, reckless driving, and failing to maintain a travel lane. He was still in custody at the jail on Monday morning. Fish, however, sustained very serious injuries in the crash and remains as a patient at the hospital in serious condition.
Trooper Mike Davidson is investigating this crash. Witnesses, or anyone with additional information, are encouraged to contact him at (775) 687-0400 regarding case number NHP-130900062.
