Drive-by food drive is Friday
The “Share Your Holiday” Food Drive sponsored by KTVN Channel 2 (CBS) and Carson Valley Inn of Minden will take place Friday, Dec. 17, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
This televised “curbside drive- by” is a first-time event in Carson Valley. The location is the Carson Valley Inn, 1627 Highway 395 in Minden.
Donors should approach Carson Valley Inn by turning from Highway 395 onto Buckeye Road at the signal, make a left turn on 8th Street immediately after passing the Bently building and drive directly to the CVI. This route will help avoid congestion.
KTVN and its employees are assisting the Carson Valley Community Food Closet and the Northern Nevada Food Bank, according to Nancy Cope, KTVN News Director.
A variety of musical groups will participate in the day’s event including Creative Garden Child Care Center, Sunshine and Rainbows Child Care Preschool, Trinity Lutheran Church Child Care Preschool, Under the Magic Pine Tree Day Care, the Relaxed Fit Men’s Quintet, Scarselli and C.C. Meneley Elementary School’s 6th grade bands, Image choir of Douglas High School, Douglas High School Jazz Band and the Douglas High School Madrigal Singers.
More entertainment surprises are expected throughout the day. While home, be sure to tune in to CBS Channel 2 and enjoy the groups.
Santa (J.C. Carrillo) will make a special appearance and will distribute to the children candy canes provided by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Protective Association.
Everyone is encouraged to participate by providing non-perishable food items and/or paper goods. Place your donations in a bag or box and drive by the CVI on your way to work, while doing errands or anytime. Volunteers will be available to meet you at the curb to accept your donations. You will not have to get out of your vehicle.
All donations will be contributed to the Carson Valley Community Food Closet, located in the Hussman Building, 1255 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville.
The contributions will be distributed by the food closet to families in Douglas County who qualify through the Social Services Department. For information, call Len Frueh at 265-3304.
