Douglas jobless numbers stable for third month
Douglas County’s unemployment rate held steady at 7.1 percent for the third month in a row, even though its workforce shrank by 150 people.
According to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, there were 1,490 jobless workers in the county during November, the same number as October.
Total employment in the county dropped to 19,400, its lowest number since June.
The number of unemployed workers is reported by the state, and does not include workers who have stopped seeking employment or whose benefits have run out.
According to the labor force summary, the number of jobless workers has dropped from 2,110 in January when the rate was 10 percent.
Statewide, the unemployment rate dropped to a seasonally adjusted 6.9 percent, down from 7.1 percent in October.
“This is tremendous news for the state of Nevada,” Gov. Brian Sandoval said. “This news is a direct reflection on the strong, solid growth we are witnessing in our labor market, which is becoming more sustainable and diversified.”
