Douglas High School graduate returns home to perform recital

Jennifer Zabelsky will be presenting two recitals this month. She will perform 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the University of Nevada, Nightingale Hall, in the Church Fine Arts building. She will return home to Carson Valley when she performs 7:30 p.m. Friday, at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church in Gardnerville. She will be performing pieces by Mozart, Gershwin, Rogers and Hammerstein, Puccini and more.

Jennifer is a 1999 graduate of Douglas High School ( Madrigal Singer); 2003 graduate of the University of Nevada, bachelor of music; 2005 graduate of Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Pa., master of music, vocal performance and is currently a doctoral candidate at Boston University, Boston, Mass.

Zabelsky has performed various roles including; Elisetta in Il Matrimonio Segreto; Monica in The Medium; Lily in The Secret Garden; and Ado Annie in Oklahoma!.

Jennifer will be performing at the Saarburg International Music Festival July 14-28, 2013 in Saarburg, Germany. The Saarburg Music Festival is a distinguished gathering of students and young professionals from all over the world. Zabelsky was encouraged to audition for the festival by the chair of the Vocal Department at UNR, Dr. Katharine DeBoer. The musicians will have the opportunity to perform various opera works and chamber music at the festival. She is the daughter of Douglas High School Band Director Bill Zabelsky

There is no admission to the recitals, however contributions will be accepted to help off-set the expenses of traveling to Germany this summer.

A reception will follow each recital.
