Douglas High FFA collecting gift cards for Camp fire victims

The Carson Valley Future Farmers of America Club at Douglas High School in Minden is collecting gift cards through Dec. 7 to assist victims of the Camp fire in Paradise, Calif.

FFA adviser Robin Futch said she and her students are asking the community to provide donations directly to the school or to watch for DHS’ Parade of Lights on Dec. 1 and drop the cards into FFA’s gift box.

Futch personally will deliver the donations to the fire victims.

Gift cards are requested from the following stores: Bed Bath & Beyond, Costco, Ross, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, TJ Maxx, Target, Lowe’s, Best Buy, Trader Joe’s, Sportsman’s, Petco, Raley’s, Warehouse, Walgreen’s and JC Penney.

Futch said the fire has impacted the local community and drew her students to action.

“We realize that the people affected by the fire have no place to put ‘stuff,’ so we decided on gift cards so that they could shop as they needed,” she said. “We also are putting emphasis on the fact that this tragedy happened very close to the holidays, so we hope that our financial gifts will help provide the victims help during the holiday season.”

Futch said she wanted to assure the public as an adviser, she will personally oversee the collection of the cards and ensure each one is accounted for and hand delivered to the victims of the Camp fire.
