Douglas County sheriff’s welcome new deputy

Matthew Sampson, a 21-year-old former Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Explorer, was sworn in Monday as a deputy.
Sheriff Ron Pierini welcomed the new officer at a ceremony at the DCSO Minden office.
Sampson is a Gardnerville resident and a graduate of Silver State Charter High School.
He has attended Western Nevada College.
The appointment is a result of several months of testing and evaluation consisting of a written examination, physical agility test, oral interview, extensive background investigation, psychological evaluation, polygraph examination, and medical exam.
Sampson will undergo a 12-week jail training program to provide him with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform his duties as a jail deputy.
