Douglas County names three clerk-treasuer finalists
A former Genoa Town Board member, a county financial officer and an auditor for the state of Nevada are the three finalists for Douglas County clerk-treasurer.
Genoa resident Kitty De Socio, Minden resident Kathy Lewis, and Ruhenstroth resident Eileen Thomas were selected by a committee for the position, which has been vacant since August when Clerk-Treasurer Ted Thran resigned. Because Thran was on the ballot, he had to resign again, effective Jan. 5, 2015.
The selection process has been conducted by County Manager Jim Nichols, who thanked members of a committee who helped narrow the 10 candidates to three.
“I have been very impressed with the entire committee,” Nichols said. “They have all brought a great deal of professionalism to this process which I believe will provide us with an excellent clerk-treasurer for Douglas County.”
A Jan. 20 date has been set for a public reception, where the three candidates will be interviewed by the committee, and will then be asked to give a speech about their credentials and experience that make them best suited for the position.
County spokeswoman Melissa Blosser said the committee will then further screen the candidates based on the information received from the interviews and reception.
A list of final candidates will then be submitted to county commissioners for consideration in February.
Whomever gets the position will have to face voters in 2016, and if successful, again in 2018.
The clerk-treasurer manages county services including elections, Tahoe DMV, marriage licenses, treasury and several others.
