Diamond Valley wildland fire blasted by wind
Douglas County is assisting Alpine County in battling a small wildland fire on both sides of Diamond Valley Road.
The assistance call went out at about 8:45 a.m. today as reports of visible smoke rolled in around the Valley.
At 9 a.m., firefighters reported the blaze was three-quarters of an acre; however, spotting was occurring in the area due to strong winds, some in excess of 60 mph.
The fire was one of many incidents reported this morning related to wind.
A speed limit sign was toppled near Jacks Valley Elementary School. A heap of tumbleweed obstructed Tillman Lane in the Ranchos, and there were also reports of downed telephone poles.
