Deputies take California fugitive into custody

Staff Reports

A 47-year-old man convicted of sexual assault in California was arrested Friday at a residence on Linda Anne Court by Douglas County sheriff’s deputies and FBI agents.

Undersheriff Paul Howell said Rick David Oliver was arrested at 3 p.m. after a foot chase in the East Valley neighborhood.

Howell said Oliver had been convicted in California of sexual assault of a minor and fled jurisdiction to avoid sentencing. Howell said he has prior felony convictions for narcotics and sex offenses.

Deputies located Oliver at 1139 Linda Anne Court.

Howell said 10 deputies, two FBI agents and two canine officers responded to the residence after the sheriff’s office received a tip that Oliver was living there. Howell said Oliver was armed and dropped a gun during the chase which was recovered.

Following a short foot chase and struggle with officers, Oliver was taken into custody and booked into the Douglas County Jail where he is being held as a fugitive from justice on the listed California charges.

Howell said he will be held without bail until extradited to Yuba County, Calif.

Also arrested was an associate of Oliver identified as 41-year-old Adrian Dave Froid of Reno.

Froid was arrested and booked for obstructing and delaying an officer. He is being held in Douglas County Jail on a $637 bail.

Howell identified Froid as a friend of Oliver’s and said he tried to help him escape from deputies.
