Democrats caucus on Saturday

Staff Reports

While Republicans are selecting their nominee to run for president, Democrats already have their presidential candidate.

But they’ve lots more to do when they gather on Saturday for their caucus, including discussing the 2012 platform and directing Democratic politics, said Douglas County Democratic Caucus Chairwoman Jo Etta Brown.

“Nevada is a caucus state and swing state, an important and unique political position in the nation,” Brown said. “You will see old friends and meet new ones and share a cup of coffee and leave energized to help with the election process.”

The agenda includes affirming Obama as the Democratic candidate; electing delegates to the Democrats’ county convention; electing permanent precinct chairs; and discussing important local and national issues, Brown said. Voter registration is offered at the caucus sites.

Caucus registration is at 11 a.m. and business begins at 11:30 a.m. at Douglas High School, 1670 Highway 88, Minden; Dresslerville Senior Center, 1585 Wa She Shu Way, Dresslerville; and Topaz Ranch Estates Community Center, Carter Drive, TRE. Temporary caucus chairs are expected to arrive at 10 a.m. to set up.
