DCSO keeps eye on gangs in Douglas
Douglas County residents don’t have much to worry about in the wake of suspected gang shootings in nearby Carson City, said Sheriff Ron Pierini.
“Over the last eight years, our stance has been real strong against gangs and violence in Douglas County and it has been real effective,” Pierini said.
Pierini said the DCSO investigative division has Detective Keith Logan assigned to investigate any reports of gang members or gang activity in the Valley.
“He does a good job keeping track of anyone who seems to be interested in gangs and he visits these people. If they commit any criminal acts, they are immediately reprimanded or arrested for those offenses. It sends a strong message,” he said.
Pierini said the department always focuses on any act of violence.
“For any act of violence, we put all our resources on it and make arrests as soon as we can,” he said.
The proactive approach has worked in Douglas County, Pierini said, which includes GREAT instruction to middle school students. GREAT is an anti-gang program put on by Deputy Jennie Hill in all the schools.
“That’s what has worked and that’s what the community said they wanted as a policy,” Pierini said.
