DCBIA sets third annual home show

The Douglas County Building Association will hold the third annual Home Show Saturday, May 15, and Sunday, May 16, at Minden Park and the CVIC Hall.

Vendor booths, competition games, entertainment and the backhoe rodeo add up to fun for families. Saturday show hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The show is being sponsored by BMC West and will display the latest in building materials; Aristokraft Cabinets, which will display a line of cabinets at the show; Premdor doors, which also will show its line of products; and Milgard Windows.

Booths will be set up in the park and the CVIC Hall, and include displays and information on building and home products.

Some of the vendors include Landmark Homes, with a table-top display of housing availability, Whipple Electric, with security and alarm products and Silver state Roofing Materials with a display.

AJ Stoves will show wood, gas and pellet stoves, and Nevada Sales and Distribution, which will show promotional products for business.

Coldwell Banker ITILDO and Brokers National Mortgage will be available to discuss home ownership opportunities, and the latest in tile and stone will be displayed by Radke Tile and Marble Inc.

Water Quality Service will show water treatment equipment and supplies for the home, and the newest in home appliances can be seen at the display by Capital Wholesale Equipment. Century 21 Clark Properties will be on hand to present home and land opportunities.

Floor coverings will be shown by Carson Valley Wholesale Flooring, and Gardnerville Spa will feature Coleman products.

Also to be demonstrated and displayed are paint products, power tools, home interior decors, paintings, porcelain, landscape products equipment and ideas for inside and outside the home.

Games and entertainment for children will be provided by Douglas County Search and Rescue, and food and beverages, hot dogs, barbecued foods and tacos are planned.

Builders will compete to build a storage shed in the Shed Building Championship. The first team to complete the shed will be the winner, and the sheds will be given away along with other prizes in a raffle. Tickets will be available at the event or can be purchased by calling 783-1782.

Two-time backhoe rodeo winner Doug Curtis will defend his title. Operators will fill water jugs and place rings over stakes using the newest backhoes provided by sponsors Cashman Equipment Co. with Caterpillar, Empire Equipment Co. with John Deere, and Western Power and Equipment with Case.

Entry forms may be obtained by calling the above number. Entry fees will be divided and paid to the top three contestants.

The DCIBA has adopted the Douglas County Search and Rescue team, and proceeds from the reverse raffle will benefit the team. Only 250 tickets are being sold, and the three prizes will be a 1999 Ford Ranger, two-wheel drive, five-speed; Maytag Neptune washer and dryer; and a La-Z-Boy recliner.

Capital Valley Automart, Capital Wholesale Electric and Winans Furniture helped to secure these prizes. Raffle tickets are $100 each.
