Dad owes nearly $100,000 in child support
A Gardnerville man faces up to four years in prison after he admitted Tuesday he owes his ex-wife nearly $100,000 in child support.
Roland R. Baldwin III, 42, was ordered to pay $1,116 a month support in 2003 for his two children. As of September, he was $98,255.88 in arrears.
He pleaded guilty to attempted failure to support or maintain a child which can be treated as a felony or gross misdemeanor at sentencing.
The district attorney’s office has agreed not to oppose a request for probation.
“I just didn’t pay child support,” Baldwin said.
“It takes quite a bit of work avoiding child support to get to this level of a felony,” Gamble said.
“That’s why I am here. I got myself in this hole and I want to get myself out,” Baldwin said.
He told Gamble he was unemployed.
Sentencing is Feb. 22.
