Couple taken into custody after felony car stop
A man told deputies he hadn’t slept for three days after he was taken into custody in a felony car stop along Highway 395 on Friday morning.
Deputies responded to a report of a man and woman arguing in the parking lot of Heritage Bank in a silver Toyota Highlander at about 10:07 a.m.
According to the sheriff’s report, a deputy southbound on Highway 395 saw a vehicle matching the description of the Highlander pulling out of the AM/PM on Waterloo Lane.
The deputy pulled the vehicle over across the highway from Heritage Bank and spoke with Raymond and Lisa Garrison, who he knew from prior contacts. There were two small children in the back seat.
When asked, the Garrisons admitted they’d been drinking alcohol that morning, and then to using methamphetamine as recently as that morning, according to the report.
As he was preparing to do a field sobriety test, bank staff said they’d seen Garrison with a handgun.
The deputy called for back-up, drew his weapon and ordered Garrison to put his hands out of the window. After the third time, Garrison put one hand out the window and then opened the door and started walking toward the deputy.
After Garrison dropped to his knees, he said there was a man in the back of the vehicle who had a gun and was threatening to kill the family.
When back-up arrived, deputies got all the occupants out of the vehicle and discovered there wasn’t anyone else in the vehicle.
No handgun was found inside the vehicle, and Garrison denied he had or even owned one.
Garrison continued to claim there was a man with a gun, who slipped out of the vehicle and hid under the car.
He told the deputy he’d been using methamphetamine every day for three days and hadn’t slept.
Raymond Garrison was taken into custody for obstructing, possession of drug paraphernalia and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Lisa Garrison was taken into custody for driving under the influence of drugs and child endangerment.
The children and the vehicle were released to a family member.
