Couple arrested in robbery of 80-year-old
Two people are in custody after an 80-year-old Gardnerville resident was found bound and beaten in his home beaten in his home.
Dylan Thomas Ravel, 29, and Marie Lena Ravel, 30, both of Rio Grande, N.J., were arrested northbound on Highway 395 about 10 minutes after the victim called 911.
According to Tom Mezzetta of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the victim told deputies he arrived home Friday evening and saw the couple parked in his driveway.
Ravel was hired by the victim’s son to do some work on the property and had been living on the property for three weeks with his wife.
Ravel reportedly asked the victim to use his phone and once inside he made a brief call. After making the call, the victim told deputies Ravel picked up a fireplace poker and ordered him to the floor. Ravel allegedly tied the man’s hands behind him and then struck the elderly man several times in the head with the poker.
The victim said he feigned unconsciousness and Ravel allegedly bound his legs and took his wallet.
Mrs. Ravel allegedly walked into the home during the incident.
The Ravels were stopped at Highway 395 and Riverview Drive. Deputies had the victim identify the couple and they were arrested. A search of their vehicle revealed items from the victim’s home.
Dylan Ravel was arrested in lieu of $80,187 bail for robbery, burglary, battery with a deadly weapon, conspiracy and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Marie Ravel was arrested in lieu of $25,000 bail for possession of stolen property and conspiracy. Both were still in custody in Douglas County on Monday.
