County strategic planning precedes budget

Staff Reports

Douglas County commissioners discussed direction, vision and priorities during a strategic planning session Feb. 6 at the Carson Valley Inn.

Data collected from a citizens’ survey was presented, along with more than 200 comments received in the open comment section of the survey.

The survey measured citizens’ perceptions of whether the county is on the right track, as well as areas where citizens would prefer the county focus its efforts in the near future. The information gathered will be incorporated in Douglas County’s Strategic Plan.

Priorities for the new strategic plan were identified, including financial stability, infrastructure, organizational stability, economic vitality, natural resources, culture and quality of life, managed growth and and safe community.

The initial draft strategic plan is scheduled to be presented at the commissioner’s March 16 board meeting prior to beginning the budget review process later that month. The draft document will be available for review and public comment online prior to the meeting.
