County spokeswoman takes reins in Genoa

On Oct. 3 the Town of Genoa approved an interlocal agreement to appoint Melissa Blosser as interim Genoa town manager. The contract was approved by Douglas County commissioners on Thursday at their board meeting. The contract is for month to month for the amount of $4,500 with the option of up to six months. Former Town Manager Phil Ritger has accepted a position as the new public works director for Douglas County.
Blosser has served as the Douglas County community relations manager and public information officer for the past five and a half years. Her most relevant past experience includes six years working as the business administrator for the Lassen County Fair in Susanville, Calif., where she assisted in managing seasonal employees, service and vendor contracts and marketing large events. Blosser also assisted the fair manager with preparation of board agendas and minutes.
"The Town of Genoa is truly a special place and I am honored to be serving the community in this capacity," said Blosser. "I intend to provide support and stability through Douglas County for the township allowing them to take the time needed to find a permanent replacement."
Blosser holds a bachelor's degree in agricultural communications and public relations. She will graduate this fall with a degree in mass communication from South Dakota State University School of Journalism. She resides in Minden and has two sons.
Blosser will assume the position on Thursday. She will also remain in her current position, splitting her duties between the two roles.
