Counterfeit bills purchased on ‘craigslist’
November 15, 2011
Douglas County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a report of counterfeit bills which a suspect said he purchased from craigslist in Carson City.
Officers were called to AM-PM Mini-mart in Gardnerville at 8:30 p.m. Nov. 11 after an employee said a customer tried to pay for items with a $20 counterfeit bill.
When asked where he obtained the phony money, the suspect said he obtained $200 in counterfeit bills from a craigslist item in Carson City.
The questionable bill is missing the security thread. The back appears to have a crease mark that the suspect made before photocopying the bill, according to reports.
The suspect left the store before an officer arrived and the busy cashier was unable to obtain vehicle or license plate information.
