Cottonwood name to be changed
On Feb. 21, Cottonwood Care Center will be no more – it will be Valley Meadows.
“We have new management. It’s the same old building but all new people,” said Activity Director Evelyn Martinez.
A ceremony is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. at the Gardnerville Ranchos nursing home, to unveil its new name. A new sign has been placed at the long-term care facility, but right now it is covered up.
“We want the community involved,” Martinez said. “We’re going to be unveiling the new sign, and then we’re going to have a big barbecue, with hot dogs and hamburgers. Everyone’s invited. The more the merrier.”
Martinez said the facility will be open for community members to walk through, in an “open house-type” atmosphere.
Valley Meadows would like community members to be involved with the care of its residents. Martinez said she is starting an “adopt-a-grandparent” program, where people come to visit the elderly residents or attend the center’s theme dinners with them.
Residents interested will have the opportunity to sign up for the program at the ceremony.
Martinez said the center’s residents are looking forward to the ceremony.
“They’re excited. They’ve been so excited lately,” she said. “We also have a big party coming up for Valentine’s Day. They’re just really excited right now. There’s a lot of things going on.”
