Convicted sex offender arrested near park
A 45-year-old convicted sex offender was jailed Friday after he was arrested at Ranchos Aspen Park in violation of his parole.
Harold Virgil Godden, who has lived in the area since December, was taken into custody at the park about 2:30 p.m.
Deputies said Godden reportedly had four pairs of wet, balled-up women’s underwear in his pockets and three pairs in a bag he was carrying.
He told the officer he found the underwear at the park and was taking it home to be washed.
Deputies located Godden on the dirt walkway entering Rancho Aspen Park on Wheeler Drive.
Children were in the park for Little League practice, according to the report. Godden is forbidden to enter any park or be at a gathering with children present.
Officers contacted Godden’s parole officer after they were called by a woman from whom he rented a room in the 1300 block of Kimmerling. She said they had argued over money.
The woman said she began renting to Godden after he was released from prison on Dec. 19.
He agreed to pay $325 a month, but she said he’d only paid $140 total.
She confronted him because she needed his share to pay utilities.
The woman said she was afraid of Godden and waited for him to leave before she contacted deputies.
The woman said Godden was using her mail box and cell phone in violation of his parole conditions. She said he frequents the county library to use the Internet, also a parole violation.
Godden’s parole officer told officers to arrest him, and that his status as a registered sex offender would be elevated from least likely to re-offend to high risk.
According to the state sex offender registry, Godden was convicted of sexual assault on Aug. 21, 1985, in Las Vegas. He was incarcerated at the Lovelock Correctional Center.
He is to appear in District Court on a parole violation which will determine if he is returned to prison, according to reports.
