Column: Stability in an unstable world
I don’t think that it is a secret that the times we are in are riddled with much instability. Our confidence in many things has and is being shaken. Many find themselves looking at the conditions of the world and wondering what the future will look like. Several institutions we once trusted in are found to be unreliable and seem to be crumbling right before our eyes.
The good news is Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Heb 13:8
The Bible tells us that everything that can be shaken will be and only the things that cannot be shaken will remain.
Heb 12:25 See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven, 26 whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven. 27 Now this, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.
28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. 29 For our God is a consuming fire.
God’s Word will not be shaken because it is eternal. Matt 24: 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
What about hope, real hope? I Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance incorruptible (Imperishable) and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,
If our house is build upon sand we have reason to worry, but if it is built upon the rock there is no need to worry. King David said after he was delivered from his enemies. II Sam 22:2 And he said:
“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
3 The God of my strength, in whom I will trust;
My shield and the horn of my salvation,
My stronghold and my refuge;
My Savior, You save me from violence.
4 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised;
So shall I be saved from my enemies.
We would all do well to remember this one statement.
Mal 3:6 “For I am the Lord, I do not change;
I will finish with the chorus of an old song. On Christ the solid rock I stand all other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand.
May the Lord bless and keep you.
