Classic cars visit Minden
The weather dealt the Hot August Nights poker run through Minden a winning hand.
It was a big hand, too, with 700 poker cards being distributed to classic car drivers who came down to Carson Valley from the Reno event, which wraps up today.
“The weather could not have cooperated any more perfectly,” said Bill Chernock, Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce executive director.
With an estimated 800,000 people in Reno for the annual classic car show, Chernock said it wasn’t a surprise to see downtown Minden filled with the cars.
“It’s such a big event,” he said, “and for years the footprint of the impact of that event has extended in a 60-mile circle from Reno, and we’ve all benefitted from it for years.”
Chernock said the event also succeeded in getting people from outside the Valley into Minden shops.
“We had some success in getting them out of their cars, down Esmeralda Avenue and into the stores and restaurants,” he said.
Chernock thanked the partners in the event, including the Valley Cruisers, Lira’s Markets and the Lion’s Club, who directed traffic.
The rumble of classic cars will return to Minden Aug. 20-21 when the Main Street Show & Shine.
Carson City promoter Bryan McGill of Capital Classic Productions said there are 100 scheduled to participate in the annual event.
“It’s a go,” said McGill. “We’re going to do everything in our power to make this happen.”
