Christmas events, sports and flu warning around Antelope Valley

by Lynne Katusich

There have been a number of holiday celebrations taking place around Antelope Valley, and there will be a few more. This Saturday, the Walker Country Store and VFW Post 3630 are sponsoring a visit from Santa for the kids in the valley. It will take place between 1 and 3 p.m. at the Country Store, and I know the kids will have a ball.

Coleville High fall sports

Dec. 5 and 6, the Antelope Valley Lions Club sponsored a basketball tournament. Both of our teams did well, with the girls’ team finishing first over Lee Vining and the boys’ team going second to the Lee Vining boys. Stephanie Sandoval was the MVP in the girls’ tourney. Our girls’ volleyball team finished the season with an 8-8 record. The team’s MVP was Olaire Herrera.

Our football team’s players picked for First Team awards for Division IV all-western team are Ricky Gieser, Joel Gomez, and Josh Disbro, who also won the Jackie Giorgi Sportsmanship Award.

Congratulations to all for representing our school so well.

Flu warning

I received an advisory from the County Health Department that we all should be very careful about the flu, with the virus starting early this year and having some mutation.

Please be sure you get your flu shot before the holiday.
