Chicago Mike’s Pizza helps send Waggoner abroad

Staff Report

Chicago Mike’s Pizza in Gardnerville presented a $1,771 check to Layne Waggoner recently to help send her on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to study abroad in Spain.

Layne is the youngest daughter of the late Stephanie Rose Waggoner, who lost her life in June in a paddle boarding accident.

Stephanie was Layne’s biggest fan. Always encouraging her to chase her dreams and never give up.

Layne has worked hard for the past two years at Chicago Mike’s Pizza to qualify herself for the program which will start in September.

Unfortunately with the loss of their mother, the Waggoner family has not only felt the tremendous pain and loss, but they have also felt the financial impact of losing a wife and mother way too soon in life.

That’s when Chicago Mike’s Pizza stepped in to help.

“We would like to help one of our own to finish chasing her dream,” read a sign in the restaurant asking for donations.

Cash donations were collected through July and on July 29, the staff donated all their tips earned that day and night to Layne.

“It was the last thing I expected to walk in there and see what they had done for me,” said Layne. “I’m extremely grateful.”
