Changes anounced at the Record-Courier
Record-Courier Publisher Peter Kostes this week announced two changes in the R-C’s editorial department.
Longtime editor Sheila Gardner has accepted a position at the R-C’s sister newspaper in Carson City, The Nevada Appeal. Gardner’s last day at the R-C is Dec. 29.
R-C reporter Christy Chalmers has been promoted to news editor.
For the past 18 months, Chalmers has covered Douglas County government for the R-C. Prior to joining the newspaper, Chalmers headed up The Nevada Appeal’s Douglas County coverage for several years.
Gardner, who began working at the R-C in 1981, has been editor for the past 10 years.
“During Sheila’s tenure, The Record-Courier consistently has been judged one of the best newspapers in the state. Sheila has established a strong tradition of excellence and helped make The Record-Courier a great community newspaper,” Kostes said. “The entire staff of The Record-Courier wishes Sheila the best of luck in her new role at The Nevada Appeal.”
Kostes also noted the R-C will host a reception for Gardner and Chalmers on Wednesday, Dec. 27, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The public is invited.
