Demand for the sunny side of Carson Street might not be so great today with a 58-degree temperature forecast for the start of the Nevada Day Parade at 10 a.m.

Today dawned clear and 40 degrees in the capital this morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Clear skies and a high of 75 degrees is forecast for parade day.

Nevadans celebrate the 154th year of statehood. The Silver State entered the Union Oct. 31, 1864.

The parade closes Carson Street between Winnie and Stewart streets. It officially starts at William Street and features more than 200 entries.

This morning starts with the Republican Women’s Pancake Breakfast at te Governors Mansion 7-9:30 a.m.

A hot air balloon launch sponsored by Re-Max Realty is 8 a.m. as is the Nevada Day Classic Run-Walk.

The parade kicks off with a flyover of military aircraft at 10 a.m.

Some traditional events will be going on along the parade route, including the 42nd Nevada Day World Championship Single-Jack Drilling contest at the Max Casino 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Nevada Day Beard Contest will be 2 p.m. at McFadden Plaza.

Sen. Dean Heller will be sponsoring a chili feed at the Carson Nugget noon to 2 p.m.

Tours of the Governor’s Mansion will be 2-4 p.m.

Admission is free at the Nevada State Museum and the Nevada Railroad Museum throughout the day.
