Carson River clean-up planned
October 10, 2001
Soroptimist International of Carson Valley and the Carson Valley Conservation District, along with Western Nevada Resource Conservation and Development, have set Saturday, Oct. 20, beginning at 8 a.m. as the fourth annual Carson River Clean-up Day.
This year’s location will be at the Mack Diversion on Mack Land and Cattle Ranch.
From Aspen Park at 1350 Centerville Lane proceed to the end of Aspen Lane where the gate will be open to get to the project site.
The community is invited to join in this local environmental project. Fill dirt will be brought in to establish a gradual slope on the river bank for increased survivability of plant material. As a deterrent to erosion, volunteers will plant willows and cottonwoods. Installing chicken wire around existing trees will prevent beavers from destroying the environment, and placing of bat boxes will provide breeding areas.
All participants will receive a T-shirt, as well as enjoy a barbecued hot dog lunch prepared by members of the Lions Club.
This is a family event in conjunction with Make a Difference Day and will promote pride in the community and enhance the environment.
