Carson photo club heads into the storm

Staff Reports

Marv Wetzel of Marv’s Custom Framing was the presenter at the Carson Valley Photo Club’s May meeting.

About 25 club members and two guests listened to him discuss different styles of framing, reusing frames with new matting and dry mounting large photos for a smoother effect.

The theme of the club’s monthly photo contest was “edge of the storm.” There were a total of 18 submissions that were judged by Mary Kay Kaluza.

First place: Don Swezey, “Turning down the Lights”

Second place: Lavon Wiseman, “Fierce Storm”

Third place: Suzie Zimmerli, “Driving into the Storm”

Winners of the contest were gifted frames donated to the club by Wetzel.

The club’s next meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. June 13 at Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville. The public is welcome.

The June photography contest theme is “wildflowers” and the guest speaker will be Carol Grenier, an award-winning wildlife photographer.
