Capsized boat leads to Tahoe rescue
Nine people were treated for hypothermia Saturday after their boat overturned off Dollar Point in Lake Tahoe.
At about 2 p.m., the El Dorado County Sheriff’s boat unit responded to a report of a vessel taking on water. Boating deputies and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to find six people in the water clinging to the hull of the capsized boat. People aboard the sailboat who made the distress call were able to pick up three of those in the water, but heavy winds prevented them from rescuing the rest. Deputies pulled two people from the water, while the Coast Guard rescued the remaining four.
All victims were transported to the Public Utility Dock on the north shore of Lake Tahoe where awaiting paramedics transported the victims to the hospital for hypothermia.
