Boys & Girls Club holds open house

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School will be throwing open its doors to the public next week to celebrate National Boys & Girls Club Week, with events beginning at 2 p.m. each day Monday through Friday.

“We are so excited for people to come visit the club, have some fun and see all of the great programs we offer,” Katie Leao, chief professional officer for the club, said. “The scheduled events will spotlight our commitment to academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles.”

Calendar of events includes:

Monday, 2-6 p.m. – Club Spirit Day: Share the spirit and passion of the club by bringing a friend. Wear your club gear and be entered into a raffle.

Tuesday, 2-6 p.m. – Art Day: Try a variety of hands-on arts and crafts.

Wednesay, 2-6 p.m. – Game Day: Larger than life games for the not-so-competitive to the ultra-competitor.

Thursday, 2-6 p.m. – Sports Day: Fun in the sun activities for everyone.

Friday, 3:30-7 p.m. – Boys & Girls Club Art Show: Walk the Club member art gallery.

Leao said Boys & Girls Club Week is a great way for the community to get to know or reacquaint themselves with the Club and its offerings.

“We hear from folks on a daily basis they didn’t know about the programs we offer,” she said. “We have a robust schedule daily that includes structured homework help, arts and crafts, personal development and sports. I invite everyone to check out our club and our new website at”
