Boy Scouts hold annual food service project

Staff Reports

The Pinenut District of the Nevada Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America announces its annual “Good Turn for America Scouting for Food Drive” on Saturday.

All the collected food will be delivered to each community’s food pantry.

Individuals and families wishing to donate food should have their non-perishable food products in a plastic sack on their doorsteps for pickup by 9 a.m.

“Our goal is to flood the food pantries with an abundance of food”, said John Domina, Pinenut District Civic Services and Activities Chairman.

The food drive will include the communities of Carson City, Dayton, Gardnerville/Minden, and South Lake Tahoe.

“An estimated 400 Scouts comprising Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, and adult leaders of the district will distribute 16,000 fliers announcing the food drive”, said Domina.

The fliers will be distributed to area homes through Wednesday. The same group will also collect donations from the doorsteps of homes.

Youth and volunteers participating in the food drive will be wearing their official Scout uniform.

Community members who have questions regarding the event or businesses wishing to contribute can reach the district office at (775) 884-0838.
