Boy on bike hit by truck

Staff reports

A vehicle vs. pedestrian accident sent a Gardnerville boy to the hospital on April 26.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Amy Del Soldato, who investigated the crash, said the victim was waiting at the intersection of Waterloo Lane and Highway 395 for a green light so that he might cross the intersection and enjoy the benefits of Lampe Park.

According to Del Soldato, after the light turned green, the boy waited for three cars to turn right onto Highway 395 in front of him, then proceeded to walk his bicycle across the intersection. Del Soldato said the suspect’s vehicle was turning left onto Highway 395 from Waterloo when it struck the victim’s bicycle causing the victim to be stuck also.

The trooper said the bicycle, trapped under the suspect’s vehicle, skidded for about 40 feet.

Del Soldato said after the accident the boy was transported to the hospital for treatment of bruises on both sides of his body. The suspect was issued a citation for failing to yield to a pedestrian.
