A bicyclist sustained significant injuries in a collision with a 1-ton construction truck early this morning on Highway 50 near Wildwood Avenue in South Lake Tahoe.
Donovan Boling, 25, was riding on the highway when a truck with a large construction sign appears to have struck him.
The South Lake Tahoe Police Department received a 911 call from the truck driver, who said he was travelling east at about 25 mph, and never saw the bicyclist. He told police he stopped immediately when he felt an impact and then saw the damaged bicycle and bicyclist lying on the south side of the highway.
Police report that the bicyclist didn't appear to be wearing a helmet. He was wearing a gray tank top over a white T-shirt, black pants and black shoes. Police report the bicycle had no headlamp and no reflectors anywhere except for a single red reflector facing rearward under the seat.
The investigation of this collision is still in progress. No fault or primary collision factor has yet been determined, police said.
