Biaggini fun run draws 87 participants
Some 87 runners participated May 11 in the annual Mike Biaggini fun run to benefit the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office honor guard.
Deputy Rick Sousa, who helped coordinate the 5K fun run, said the event was a success.
The run honors Capt. Mike Biaggini who died of cancer in 2010 at age 55. He worked for the sheriff’s office for 28 years, and was commander of the honor guard.
Proceeds from the event are used to send the 10-member honor guard to Washington, D.C., to participate in activities related to the national peace officers memorial.
The honor guard participates in funerals and parades, and will travel to funerals for officers killed in the line of duty within a 400-mile radius of Douglas County.
Members pay their own expenses.
