Believe in the power of G.I.R.L.
Girl Scouts are unstoppable. Hiking up Mount Rose, adopting foster animals at the Humane Society, lobbying the city council with her troop, running her own cookie business — these are just some of the ways that prove our girls will stop at nothing to make a difference right here in our community. Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada serves 4,700 girls and 1,900 adult volunteers east of the Sierras. Today, Girl Scouts far and wide believe in the power of G.I.R.L. — they are Go-getters, Innovators, Risk-takers, and Leaders. At Girl Scouts, we have always known that girls are the key to our collective future. Gender balance in the workplace and in the public sphere are vital to ensuring that every voice is heard and every outlook is considered. There’s no mystery why corporate boards with more gender balance outperform male-dominated boards. One of the best things we can do to ensure the long-term strength of Nevada is to invest in girls. Right now, girls need our help more than ever. Nevada ranks 46th in the nation for girls’ overall wellbeing. Girl Scouts continue work towards changing that statistic. All Girl Scouts, from your Reno neighborhood girls to prominent public figures, have continued to prove one fact time and time again: Girl Scouts is the BEST girl leadership experience in the world, period. Girl Scouts provides a place for girls to support and encourage one another in a pressure-free environment without boys. Our leadership model is designed to meet their interests and desires because it encourages girls to develop a diversity of perspectives. Through this experience, girls start preparing themselves at a young age for a lifetime of leadership through the ever-changing 21st century.
Girl Scouts is the organization creating the female leadership pipeline: the Go-getters, Innovators, Risk-takers, and Leaders of tomorrow. Offering hands-on, girl-led, girl-centered learning in STEM, the outdoors, entrepreneurship, and abundant opportunities to learn life skills, Girl Scouts helps all girls take the lead early and often. Research shows that girls learn best in an all-girl, girl-led environment in which their specific needs are addressed and met.
With more than 100 years of experience, Girl Scouts brings a wealth of knowledge to programs that deliver girls cornerstone experiences with benefits to last a lifetime. Girl Scouts are making a difference right here in the greater Sierra Nevada region. They practice outdoor survival skills at Camp Wasiu II, learn financial literacy through the cookie program, identify and solve problems in their own communities, and much more. Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada is devoted to helping girls discover who they are, connecting girls locally and globally, and inspiring girls to take action to make their community and the world a better place. Girl Scouts provides a place for girls to support and encourage one another.
The girl-only, girldefined, and girl-led aspects of Girl Scouts are crucial to what we offer, and the fact is, most of a girl’s life is coed, making the safe space that Girl Scouts offers imperative for nurturing collaboration instead of competition.
