Barton Hospice withdraws from Carson Valley
January 10, 2012
Barton Home Health & Hospice will not be accepting additional referrals for residents in Carson Valley after they closed their operation in Gardnerville after 24 years last week.
Patients who live in the Carson City and Carson Valley area and have care from Barton Health and its entities will be referred to qualified home health and hospice agencies for continued quality care at home.
Barton will continue to provide health and hospice services at Lake Tahoe.
An official explained that declining reimbursements and increasing regulations on home health and hospice services has made it too expensive to cover such a large area.
Barton will continue to provide health services in Carson Valley including orthopedics, gynecology and obstetrics. The closure won’t affect Carson Valley Medical Center in Gardnerville.
Barton Health will also continue to operate its home health and hospice services in Glenbrook, Zephyr Cove, Stateline, South Lake Tahoe and Meyers, as well as areas of Markleeville and Woodfords in Alpine County. Barton Home Health & Hospice will retain both their California and Nevada licenses.
