Band brings home awards from Carson
Although they didn’t repeat last year’s win of the coveted Governor’s Cup and sweepstakes award, members of the Douglas High School band still could leave Saturday’s Nevada Day competition with their heads held high.
In the parade, the Tigers took third place, with Carson cinching the first-place spot and Reed taking second; but the Tigers did take first in the flags and identification unit categories.
In the field show, the Tigers locked the first-place spot for band, as well as first-place in visual and first-place in effect. They received second place in the music category and lost the Governor’s Cup to Reed by .008 points.
“I am extremely proud of the band and pageantry for the outstanding job they did at both the parade and field show,” Music Director Bill Zabelsky said on Monday. “It was their best performance this season. Of course, I was disappointed about the parade results and that we were on the wrong side of the Governor’s Cup by the slimmest margin.”
Douglas’ next event is the University of Nevada, Reno, Sierra Band Crusade on Saturday.
