Atlantis fountains collect $8,100 for Make-A-Wish Foundation
January 26, 2011
Tossing coins into a fountain is a world-wide tradition for good luck wishes. The Atlantis Casino Resort Spa honors that tradition by annually donating coins from its many exquisite fountains to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern Nevada. In 2010, Atlantis collected $8,100 from its fountains and over the course of 10 years has donated more than $30,000 in coin contributions.
The money donated in 2010 granted a special wish. This wish went to Samantha, a precocious 6-year-old from Springcreek suffering from leukemia. Samantha was treated to a royal week of magic when her wish to visit Disney World came true in October. Samantha had wished to meet all the Disney characters, and her dream came true when she was a guest of honor at the Magic Kingdom, Sea World, Universal Studios, and all the other fabulous parks in Disney World. Meeting Mickey and Minnie Mouse at the Give Kids the World Village, and having a picture taken with them and her whole family was a highlight of the week.
“In Nevada, a granted wish costs an average of $5,000,” said Cynthia Freeman, regional director for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern Nevada, “as a result of the generosity of the Atlantis, we were able to send Samantha on her wish and the remaining funds will be used to help grant the wish of another special child.”
The Northern Nevada Chapter has provided wishes to children age 2 1/2 to 18 with life-threatening medical conditions in 13 Northern Nevada counties since 1983.
The Atlantis is committed to continuing to help grant the wishes of children involved with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern Nevada by donating lucky coins to ensure their wishes come true.
