At least one hurt in Gardnerville crash

Staff Reports

A collision between a semi truck and a Ford Explorer occurred in downtown Gardnerville at around 9 p.m. Friday.

According to Dauber, the wreck occurred when the Explorer, driven by Carson City resident Christopher Olson, 18, drifted into the path of the oncoming truck.

The driver of the 2015 International tried to evade Olson’s vehicle, blowing his horn and steering to the right to avoid a head-on collision.

The Explorer struck the Semi on the left side just behind the cab.

Dauber said Olson told investigators he’d blacked out. He was wearing his seatbelt. Olson was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center with serious injuries to his chest and legs.

Truck driver Kent Garza of Florida was treated at Minden Medical Center.

The highway was shut down for more than two hours, with the southbound lanes remaining closed until 2:35 a.m. Saturday.

A fuel leak from the semi did not reach any storm drains and was contained to the crash site, Dauber said.
