Aspen Park play equipment up for replacement
After more than a quarter of a century, the play equipment at Ranchos Aspen Park is being replaced.
Douglas County is seeking bids on the project, which will completely redo the playground.
“It includes a retaining wall with fall protection and a new play system,” said Community Services Director Scott Morgan. “We are currently out to bid and hope to have the project completed by the end of this fall.”
Ranchos Aspen Park opened in 1991. Morgan said the original play equipment still is there.
“We can’t find replacement parts for that equipment any more,” he said.
The cost of the play equipment is estimated at $170,000, under a seventh of the park’s original $1.1 million price tag.
Sealed bids will be opened 10 a.m. Sept. 1 at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center, where they will be read aloud and the low bid awarded.
It was the first park built in the Ranchos, built on land provided by the Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District.
