The annual Antelope Valley Lions Club will be holding their annual Deerhunters Barbecue 5 p.m. Oct. 5 at the community center in Walker. The food is always fantastic, with tasty sides and delicious desserts to go with wonderful spare ribs and deep-pit barbecued beef. There will also be raffles for a beautiful rifle with scope or a $1,000 Visa gift card. This is a great evening to get out and enjoy with a lot of really nice people, so come on down.

The senior center in Walker will be having their Bingo Fridays this month on Oct. 4 and 18, after lunch. Speaking of lunch, you can’t get a much tastier meal anywhere, so it is really a “don’t miss” afternoon.

Coleville football

Our high school boys are off to a good start this season, having won all three of their games so far, with their league record at 1-0. The next three home games will start at 1 p.m. at Coleville High’s football field on Oct. 12, 19 and 26. It’s always fun to go out and root for them.

This and that

At last! The Rim fire has now been contained, according to an announcement a few days ago. I know we’re all glad to see the end of the smoke over us so much of the time, and we can only hope that no other careless people start another one.

It looks like we are diving into the fall season, with our weather bobbing up and down from very nice to a little iffy. Unfortunately, that’s what goes with this time of year. It was surprising to see the mountains behind us with a little snow last Sunday morning, but I guess winter may be coming sooner than we might expect.

Last but sure not least — happy birthday to my husband, Mike.
