Annual rummage sale returns
For more than 30 years, the St. Gall pastoral center has been transformed into a shopping mall of donated items.
The St. Gall annual rummage sale is set for 7 a.m.- 5 p.m. Aug. 4 and 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 5 at the pastoral center in Gardnerville.
Since 1984 volunteers from the church and the community have come together to put on the rummage sale.
“Our volunteers are a big part of making this happen,” said Bev Simmons. “Bless the volunteers that come and help with this.”
Simmons is in charge of overseeing the entire process of the rummage sale from organizing donations to coordinating the volunteers.
“We’re very organized” Simmons said. “Everything is dropped off and sorted and then sent to the right department.”
Along with the Pastoral Center, the main hallway, two rooms and the back half of the parking lot are divided into departments of books, clothes, housewares, antiques, electronics, appliances, sporting goods, tools and more.
Also on the lot is a 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe and a 1984 Merceedes Benz Sidan.
Simmons said it takes nearly two months for the volunteers to collect, go through, clean and shelf the donations.
“We check for tares or any damage and anything that is not presentable to sale does not go out,“ she said.
Anything that does not sell during the rummage sale gets donated throughout the community. Simmons said they have donated items to the Elk’s club, the salvation army and Social Services has picked up beds, bedding, furniture and clothing.
“We do the best we can with the space that we have,” said Simmons. “We have some really beautiful things here.”
