Annual duck race is June 11
Once again, it’s time for those cute little yellow rubber ducks to make a gigantic splash in the Cottonwood Slough at Lampe Park in Gardnerville during the eighth annual Wacky Waddlers Wiver Wace Saturday, June 11.
The event is co-sponsored by the Carson Valley Community Food Closet and the Gardnerville Spa and Pool, owned by Layne and Don Aufdenkamp.
Held in conjunction with Carson Valley Days, the event will begin at the slough at 1 p.m. with the business race; 1:30 p.m., clubs and organizations and the general race at 2 p.m.
Nothing may be attached to the racing ducks. All ducks will be numbered with water proof markers. Ducks with any embellishment will be automatically eliminated from the races.
When you purchase a duck, you will receive a ticket with a number. The ticket will be the door prize ticket. General public race ducks may be purchased for a donation of $5 each. Business and organization ducks are a donation of $50 each. Both are tax deductible. People may purchase as many ducks as they wish. The winning duck of the business and club organization races will receive a perpetual trophy and a medallion which will be engraved with the winners’ names. The trophies will remain in the possession of the winners until the race next year.
Ducks crossing the finish line first, second, third and last will receive gifts. A variety of gifts donated by businesses and individuals will be dispersed to those winners.
Ducks will be sold at numerous churches and supermarkets, as well as Stewart Title, 1650 Minden; Gardnerville Spa and Pool, 1540 Highway 395 South; during Carson Valley Days and along the parade route, and at the Carson Valley Community Food Closet, 1255 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville (across from Lampe Park), Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1 to 4 p.m.
Proceeds from the race will assist with the maintenance and operation of the Food Closet. For Information regarding the race or food closet, call Diane Malone, 782-3711 Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 1 to 4 p.m.
