Alpine Kids receive donation to make insurance payment

Staff Reports

In April, Alpine Kids received a donation from Albert and Diana Del Masso, owners of Bay Cities Produce Co. Inc. in San Leandro, Calif.

Alpine Kids will use the money to make up the difference towards this year’s liability insurance. During 2006 the Del Massos donated funds that were used for cash flow.

The tobacco settlement grant that Alpine Kids is funded out of, is a reimbursement grant.

This means everything must be paid for first and then submit a claim to the county the the following month for payment.

Alpine Kids serves families living or working in Alpine County. Alpine Kids also has a program for teens ninth grade through 21 years of age. Teens go bowling twice a month and participate in additional activities during the month. Families are able to participate in monthly family outings.

Families pay $25 a year to participate in Alpine Kids. In return, they have an opportunity to spend time with other families, attend monthly functions and eat a meal with their children. Alpine Kids pays for admission and food for the families.

Activities for 2007 include: Bowling and spaghetti dinner; Swimming and pizza; Monster Trucks and dinner; Hunk-Ta-Bunk-Ta music presentation and enchilada dinner; dinner at Sierra Pines; Guided rafting trip; fishing day at Indian Creek; Barbecue pot luck dinner at Sand Harbor; Wild Waters and mini-golf; family day at Turtle Rock Park; movies, community New Year’s Eve party for families.

Alpine Kids also coordinates three blood drives a year at Turtle Rock Park. The next blood drive is Friday, June 1 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Donors are needed.

Alpine Kids is funded by Alpine County Tobacco Settlement Funds, memberships, fundraisers and donations. Information contact Edie Veatch (530)694-2934.
