Alleged mother-son meth dealers arrested

A Bishop, Calif., mother and son were arrested in Mammoth Lakes for allegedly selling methamphetamine out of their car.

Juan Manuel Vargas Gutierrez, 21, and Maria Socorro Vargas Gomez, 39, were taken into custody after members of the Mono County Narcotics Enforcement Team said they saw Gutierrez sell an ounce of methamphetamine.

According to the Mono County Sheriff’s Office, Gutierrez then allegedly sold six bindles of methamphetamine to a juvenile. He was pulled over by Mammoth Lakes Police.

Under questioning, he allegedly told officers he and his mother drove to Mammoth Lakes from Bishop to sell methamphetamine.

Officers obtained a warrant to search the home of the juvenile, where they found the methamphetamine from inside the handlebars of the scooter. He was taken into custody.

Inyo County Narcotics Enforcement Team members conducted a search on Gutierrez’s home in Bishop where they allegedly found 30 ounces of methamphetamine.

Gutierrez and Gomez were transported and booked into the Mono County Jail in Bridgeport without incident.

Gutierrez was arrested for possession of a controlled substance; possession of a controlled substance for sale; transportation of a controlled substance; using a minor as a selling agent; and conspiracy to commit a crime.

Gomez was arrested for possession of a controlled substance; possession of a controlled substance for sale; transportation of a controlled substance; and conspiracy to commit a crime.

The juvenile was arrested for possession of a controlled substance; possession of a controlled substance for sale; and transportation of a controlled substance.

All charges for this incident are pending with the Mono County District Attorney’s Office.
