Airport named changes

The county commissioners voted to change the name of the airport to the Minden/Tahoe airport Thursday.

“When you say Tahoe, most people know what it is,” said James T. Braswell of facilities operations. “It’s a recognizable landmark.”

Also as part of the package approved, the commissioners approved a new logo for the airport which will be put on the new signs when they are changed to reflect the name change.

“There is merrit in trying to develope the name that has the broadest recognition,” said District Attorney Scott Doyle. “The airport is not only used by people in the area but also by people out of the area.”

Commissioner Bernie Curtis said pilots can find Minden and Lake Tahoe on a nautical map, but Douglas County is not on those maps.

“This is part of the process of widening Douglas County’s recognition,” said commission chair Jacques Etchegoyhen.
