Addeo a silver star at press association
Record-Courier Senior Business Development Manager Tara Addeo was honored by the Nevada Press Association at its annual convention in Mesquite on Saturday night.
A longtime Carson Valley resident, Addeo joined The R-C’s staff in August 2013.
The Record-Courier received several editorial and advertising awards at the convention.
Former R-C staff writer Sarah Hauck won first place for best feature for her story on Carson Valley residents Clarence Godecke and Garry Den Heyer. Godecke was a pilot flying a bomber delivering food to hungry Dutch children, including Den Heyer, at the end of World War II.
“Clearly the head of the class,” the judge said.
R-C freelancer Caryn Haller won first place for best nonstaff story for her coverage of the Minden Aviation Roundup.
The R-C received a first place award for best advertising series for its Health and Healing publication and for best print advertisement.
The R-C Running Commentary won for best platform writing. It is the seventh year in a row the commentary has won the award, which has also been called best online writing and best blog over the years.
“Interesting that most of the writing on here is snippets from readers, but it seems like a good tool for engagement — and I read some real news too,” the judge said.
Jim Grant’s photo of an arrest on Main Street won second place for best news photo. Hauck also took second and third places for best entertainment writing.
Editor Kurt Hildebrand’s Editor’s Notepad won second place for best local column. Hildebrand also won second place for his story about Michele Kozlowski’s mission to keep her husband out of prison, that only ended in her murder.
The R-C also took second places for best sports photo, best ad series, best web site and advertising general excellence.
Writer Aurora Sain won third place for her story about Deanna Lopes. The R-C’s coverage of the effort to put a gravel pit in the East Valley won third place for community service.
Other third places included general excellence, advertising special section, Carson Valley Almanac, best portrait, best feature photo and best page one design.
